Our Approach to Candle Making

As artisans…we like to create things that make people happy, and we like to get our hands dirty.

As scientists…we only use 100% soy wax, not a blend. Every candle is free of Petroleum products, Parabens and Phthalates (cancer causing chemicals used by all corporations and most small businesses.)

FAQ

  • Choosing 100% soy candle wax has several advantages that make it a preferred option for many candle consumers:

    1. Natural and Eco-Friendly: Soy wax is derived from soybeans, making it a renewable resource. It is biodegradable, which means it breaks down naturally and is less harmful to the environment compared to paraffin wax, which is derived from petroleum.

    1. Cleaner Burn: Soy candles typically produce less soot compared to paraffin candles. This means they're less likely to leave black residue on walls and ceilings and contribute to better indoor air quality.

    1. Longer Burn Time: Soy wax generally burns slower and cooler than paraffin, which can lead to a longer-lasting candle. This means you can enjoy the fragrance and ambiance for a more extended period.

    1. Better Fragrance Retention: Soy wax has a good scent throw, meaning it holds and releases fragrance well. This allows for a more enjoyable and consistent scent experience when the candle is lit.

  • Parabens and phthalates are chemicals commonly used in various products, including candles, for specific purposes. Here’s a breakdown of what they are and why their presence in candles matters:

    Parabens

    • What They Are: Parabens are a group of synthetic compounds used as preservatives to prevent the growth of bacteria and mold in products. They are often found in cosmetics, personal care items, and some food products.

    • Why It Matters in Candles: Some candles use fragrance oils or additives that may contain parabens. Concerns have been raised about parabens due to their potential to mimic estrogen in the body, which could disrupt hormonal balance. While research on their effects is ongoing, many consumers prefer to avoid parabens for health and safety reasons.

    Phthalates

    • What They Are: Phthalates are a group of chemicals used to make plastics more flexible and durable. They are also used as solvents in various products, including fragrances.

    • Why It Matters in Candles: Phthalates are often found in synthetic fragrance oils used in candles. Similar to parabens, there are concerns about phthalates' potential health effects, including hormonal disruption and links to reproductive issues. Many people choose to avoid them due to these health concerns.

    Consumer Impact

    • Health Concerns: Many consumers are increasingly aware of the ingredients in the products they use and prefer options that are free from parabens and phthalates. This trend has led to a rise in the popularity of natural and organic candles, which often use alternative methods to achieve fragrance and preservation without these chemicals.

    • Label Awareness: When purchasing candles, it's beneficial to look for labels that specify "paraben-free" and "phthalate-free" to ensure you are choosing products that align with your health and safety preferences.
